Electrical Substation Construction

Design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of electrical substations

GridCore designs, builds, installs and maintains electrical substations, including compliant prefabricated solutions approved by Enel.

Drawing on the integrated expertise of the Group’s companies, GridCore manages the entire life cycle of electrical substations, from design through to operational maintenance. The Group supports network operators, utilities and major infrastructure companies in the construction and modernisation of energy networks.

HV/MV Substations

GridCore builds and installs HV/MV substations, managing the civil works, electrical systems and prefabrication.
These substations are key nodes in the electricity network, transforming high voltage to medium voltage for onward distribution.

Activities include:

  • Installation of MV and LV electromechanical equipment
  • Installation of HV terminal assemblies and fixed earthing points
  • Installation of conductors and electrical connections
  • Installation of MV feeder panels, power factor correction equipment and auxiliary service systems
  • Installation and wiring of electrical switchboards
  • Laying and connection of MV and LV cables
  • Installation of MV cable terminations
  • Installation of the building’s electrical and air-conditioning systems
  • Installation of external substation lighting
  • System testing, inspection and commissioning

MV/LV Substations

GridCore constructs and maintains MV/LV substation systems and equipment. These are key components of local distribution networks, transforming medium voltage into low voltage to supply urban, industrial and manufacturing areas.

MV/LV substations provide the connection between the distribution network and end users, ensuring the stability, safety and continuity of the electricity supply.

Le cabine MT/BT rappresentano il punto di connessione tra la rete di distribuzione e le utenze finali, garantendo stabilità, sicurezza e continuità del servizio elettrico.

Activities include:

  • Design and installation of prefabricated electrical substations
  • Electromechanical assembly of substation equipment
  • Installation of modular switchgear panels fitted with switch-disconnectors
  • Installation and connection of MV/LV transformers
  • Installation and connection of LV switchboards
  • Installation of MV and LV cable joints and terminations
  • Upgrading substations for integration with network remote-control systems (STMT)
  • Installation of fault indication and voltage monitoring systems
  • Installation of internal lighting and earthing systems

Prefabricated Electrical Substations

Drawing on the expertise available across the Group, GridCore designs, manufactures and installs prefabricated reinforced-concrete substations.

We supply prefabricated structures, either as monobloc units or modular panel systems with a prefabricated foundation base. They can be supplied complete or prepared for the installation of all required accessories and comply with the technical specifications of Italy’s main distribution network operators and with Enel approval requirements.

We also design, manufacture and install turnkey substations complete with MV/LV electrical systems for electric mobility, power generation facilities and any application requiring the transformation and use of electricity.

Prefabricated substations are used across a wide range of infrastructure applications, including:

  • Energy distribution networks
  • New industrial and manufacturing sites
  • Renewable energy infrastructure
  • Electric vehicle charging networks
  • Network extensions and capacity upgrades

Electrical Substation Maintenance and Upgrades

In addition to constructing infrastructure, GridCore maintains electrical substations to ensure network continuity and safety.

Substation maintenance is essential to ensuring continuity of the electricity supply and supporting the development of Italy’s energy network.

Activities include:

  • Routine and extraordinary maintenance of electrical substations
  • Upgrading substations to meet new network standards
  • Upgrading remote-control and supervisory systems
  • Replacement and upgrading of electromechanical equipment
  • Restoration work and improvements to system reliability
